INSURANCE SUMMARY
Members of the Ontario Wood Carvers Association (OWCA) are covered by a third party general liability insurance policy under the Intact Insurance Company. This insurance coverage is valid for members who are going about the business of OWCA or an OWCA member club. There are two types of OWCA memberships covered under this policy. The first is defined as an individual membership where an individual has paid the yearly membership fee. The second is a club membership where a club has paid the yearly membership fee plus the yearly insurance fee. Certificates of Insurance must be in place for Member clubs and Individual members participating in Special Events. Fees can be paid on the OWCA website, or by sending a cheque to our Treasurer at the following address:

CERTIFICATES OF INSURANCE (COI)
Yearly Club Certificate of Insurance: All carving Clubs who are participating in the OWCA insurance program will need to complete a yearly updated Certificate of Insurance for their club meeting location. This ensures that the information given to our Insurance provider is up to date and accurate. In order to ensure that all club members are covered, a list of active club members (first and surnames only) must be supplied to the OWCA Insurance Director to be stored on file. These lists will not be shared or used for any purpose other than confirmation of membership should a claim arise. This COI confirms coverage for club/club members who are participating in activities at their normal club meeting location. A Yearly Club COI Request form is found under the Insurance tab on the OWCA website.
Special Event Certificate of Insurance: Any club or individual member who is participating in a special event, outside of their normal meeting place, will require a COI in order to ensure insurance coverage. This includes, but is not limited to: carving shows, wood shows, teaching a carving class, exhibitions, displays at public events, etc. Information about the club or individual member requesting the COI, the location and the purpose of the event will be required. If the event is for the purpose of teaching carving, additional information is required and more time may be necessary to process the COI. It is important that students receive instruction on safe carving techniques, and the use of personal protective equipment, before any teaching begins. If the students are minors, legal guardian permission must be obtained beforehand and an appropriate ratio of students to adult supervisors is maintained. A Special Event Certificate of Insurance Request form is found under the Insurance tab on the OWCA website.
How Long Does it Take to Get a Certificate of Insurance: We ask that you submit your COI request a minimum of 2 weeks in advance of your event. This allows our insurance broker and insurance provider sufficient time to review your request and process the COI.

OWCA Mandate:
To promote interest in and develop skills in wood artistry.
Basic Statement:
The OWCA insurance policy is to provide coverage for individuals and clubs who agree with and are actively promoting the OWCA Mandate and have paid their membership fees.
What is Covered:
The OWCA insurance policy is third party general liability insurance for protection that covers you if you are legally responsible for injuring another person or damaging their property. In general, third party liability insurance can help pay for medical costs for injuries to others, legal defence fees if you are taken to court, and settlements or court awarded damages.

Most public facilities require proof of liability insurance in order to use their properties for an event. We have increased our coverage from $2,000,000. to $5,000,000. as we are now seeing $5,000,000. as the minimum requirement to use municipal/government owned facilities.
